Artist Statement

Eric Weiand (°1979, Freeport, United States}

    I am an artist working with acrylic paint on textured panel. I use a conceptual approach to investigate the dynamics of the landscapes that surround me. Rather than presenting a realistic image, I attempt to capture the feeling of a place and the feelings those places create in the observer. My paintings attempt to establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its viewer.

    My work directly responds to the surrounding environment and uses my everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context. By applying abstraction, I try to approach a wide scale of subjects so as to create a connection between the painting and the observer.
